Why do people care more about their clothes than they do about their souls?

Pithy quotes from St. Teresa of Avila

On bishops: “If the bishop is holy the subjects will be so, too” (Way of Perfection, Ch. 3, para. 10).

On purity, prefection and “extremism”: “We must never tire of condemning anything that leads to hell, for the slightest evil of hell cannot be exaggerated” (Way of Perfection, Ch. 7, para. 2).

On the relationship between calumny and humility: “I am always happier that they speak about what is not true of me than the truth” (Way of Perfection, Ch. 15, para. 3).

On different forms of prayer: “Should anyone tell you that prayer is dangerous, consider him the real danger and run from him” (Way of Perfection, Ch. 21, para. 7).

Happy St. Joseph’s Day

Today’s saint is pretty busy. I’ve always had a sort of anti-devotion to “popular” saints. I try to seek out more obscure saints to pray to, to give the “popular” ones a break. In “recent” years, however, I’ve built a pretty strong devotion to St. Joseph.

So, happy feast day to:
My son.
My Dad.
My father-in-law (his confirmation saint).
My parish.
My Holy Father in Rome.
The Universal Church, and Her Latin Rite in particular.
The Order of Discalced Carmelites.
All fathers.
All workers, particularly builders.
All homes and families.
My brother. (O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the heart of Jesus as a fountain of mercy in us, I trust in You!)

Canadian priest advocates abortion of babies who will "die anyway"

Fr. Michael Prieur, the “chief ethicist” of the London, Ontario diocese, advocates “premature induction” of babies who doctors expect will die shortly after birth–see story I posted below on how wrong doctors can be in these predictions.

Gillian DeSouza, a woman who refused to follow his direct advice to execute her disabled unborn baby (who has Triple X syndrome) is publicly speaking out against him. Good for her!

Woman refused chemotherapy to protect her unborn babies

Bishop Robert C. Morlino of Madison, WI, has ordered a parish to fire Ruth Kolpack, who has been its “pastoral associate” since 1995, for her views on liberation theology and feminism. In particular, he cited her 2003 Master’s dissertation on using the feminine pronoun to refer to God.

But there’s a fundamental problem at work: there’s no such thing as a “pastoral associate.” It is entirely a made-up term to give non-canonical authority to nuns and divorced women.

Bill Donohue on how condoms do not reduce AIDS

“If condoms were the answer, then why is it that New York City, which under Mayor Michael Bloomberg has given away tens of millions of free condoms, has an HIV rate three times the national average? Furthermore, the promiscuous distribution of condoms in New York has coincided with a spike in sexually transmitted diseases of all sorts. Isn’t it time we learned that condom worship is irrational?”

Canadian Bishops’ Development and Peace organization funds overseas abortions.

LifeSiteNews has reported that the Canadian Conference of Bishops is funding abortions in Latin America through its Development and Peace fund (CCODP).
“Unfortunately, so far, Development and Peace itself is taking a reactive, shoot-the-messenger approach rather than addressing any of the specific items in our report.”
National Catholic Register confirms.
HLI and other pro-life groups have mobilized in response.
Toronto Archbishop Thomas Collins says his diocese will stop funding the organization if his investigation confirms the allegations.
Thousands of Catholics are responding to the report.

Satanists in abortion clinic scare away "customers"

An abortion clinic in Rockford, Ill., is run by such blatantly warped, Satanic individuals that it routinely displays grotesque images in its windows: hanged rubber chickens, nuns in coffins, etc.

Recently, two men who were escorting a 17 year old female to her abortion, who were personally opposed to the procedure anyway, were doubly shocked by the images in the windows, as they explained to 40 Days for Life participants outside the clinic. They went back and talked their friend out of the abortion, and the 40 Days participants provided her with assistance in her pregnancy.

Funny. When we talk about showing images of actual abortions, or actual babies, they say they’re too disturbing.

"Fr. Z" writes on the massive agenda to silence the Church

Excommunicate Robert S. McElvaine

Who has written a Newsweek piece calling for the “impeachment” of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.

McElvaine teaches at Millsap College, a Methodist school in Jackson, MS.

Contact the Most Rev. Joseph N. Latino, DD, bishop of Jackson, to request he take action about this baltant act of public apostasy by a member of his diocese.

Poor Kid

Phebe Mantha was born in Montreal in November 2007. She had severe disabilities, and doctors predicted she would not survive. Her parents ordered life support off.

Turns out, she could breathe without a respirator, so the hospital resumed nutrition and hydration. Eventually, they found out she wasn’t nearly as a bad off as they thought, and, while she’ll probably have cerebral palsy and some other manageable disabilities, she will live.

The parents brought her home, having been given the option of turning her over to child services.

Now, when the baby is 18 months old, they’re suing the hospital for keeping her alive, to the tune of $3.5 million.

Poor kid.

I guess Francis Cardinal George, OMI, is a "krank," a "crackpot," a "kook," a "hothead" and an "extremist"

Because he has said that taking conscience rights away from medical practitioners “would be the first step in moving our country from democracy to despotism.”

More on the Brazil Excommunication Case

Here’s an article on the conflicting statements of the Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops and the President of the Pontifical Academy for Life (here’s a hint: the prefect of a Congregation “outranks” the president of an Academy, especially when that Academy is the subset of a Congregation).
And a response from the Brazilian bishops.
Plus, a Neonatologist says that the nine-year-old girl could have safely brought the babies to term.

Now, the "Liberation Theology" Government of "Catholic" Brazil wants to force a 13-year-old to have an abortion.

Yet we’re told from the Left that there’s nothing wrong with Liberation Theology, and we’re told from the Charismatics that the church in South America is “vibrant” because of the Charismatic Movement.

Obama to sign UN declaration on decriminalizating homosexuality

But more important is this one:

“An official told the Associated Press that the decision to endorse was related to a ruling from the United States Supreme Court that accepted the right to be free from criminalization on the basis of sexual orientation ‘as an integral part of human freedom.'”

I thought the majority of the members of the Supreme Court were Catholics, and that the majority were appointed by “pro-life” Republicans?
