This is one I never would have seen coming. Didn’t even realize was as “officially” a big deal as I thought it was.
Having grown up after Vatican II and having been educated by modern Scriptural scholars who say “Ya-way” like nothing, I had always assumed it was something having to do with the New Covenant that made it OK.
Then, after reading Thomas Howard’s _The Novels of Charles Williams_ and Charles Williams’ _All Hallows’ Eve_, I realized what a big deal the Tetragrammaton really is, and I started being more cautious in my own use of it.
This applies to all translations and mistranslations, including “Yahweh” and “Jehovah.”

Sad thing is that the Jerusalem Bible, otherwise a cool translation partially done by J. R. R. Tolkein and otherwise official in some countries, is now “out” as an acceptable biblical translation.

Otherwise, though, it’s really cool news. Blasphemy is all too prevalent in our society, and it breaks my heart every time I hear someone casually say, “Oh my God.”
It also provides an “official” complaint against many of the Gather, Glory & Praise type hymns: “Yahweh, turn your face to me. . . ” “To You, Yahweh, I lift up my soul, Oh My God!” “Yahweh’s people dance for joy. . . “
