Sarcastic Australian Columnist Misses the Point of "drive by" Confessionals

In an article on temporary confessionals that will be put arond Sydney for World Youth Day 2008, Louise Evans comments,

Roadside absolution is the perfect solution for wayward I-want-it-all-and-I
want-it-now gen Y pilgrims, so these booths will be conveniently erected along
the tourist route from the opera house to the Domain, Hyde Park and Darling
Harbour.

Evans is apparently ignorant of the fact that temporary confessionals are frequently used in conferences, retreats and group penance services.

She goes on to the ignorant position that the list of “modern deadly sins” or whatever that came out recently is “adding” anything to Catholic teaching.

Archbishop Naumann bars Governor Sebelius from the altar

Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann of Kansas City has barred Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius from Communion! The ripples continue!

Catholic League versus CNAC

On May 2, Dr. Bill Donohue issued a press release about the fact that the 26 “Catholic” public figures on Barack Obama’s “National Catholic Advisory Council” are pro-abortion, pro-embryonic stem cell research and anti-school choice, among other things.

On May 8, those individuals, claiming they act as individuals and not representing the campaign, wrote a letter to Dr. Donohue, spouting the usual false dichotomy that “Republicans aren’t really pro-life” and the false teaching, condemned by Cardinal Ratzinger, that other issues can outweigh abortion.

They also expressed support for “sex education,” and anyone with half a brain knows that sex education in the US goes directly against Catholic teaching, in advocating fornication and contraception, *and* in improperly exposing minors to information on sexuality.

Also typical of their ilk, they confuse a “well-formed Catholic conscience” with “being a socialist.”

Then they accuse Dr. Donohue of hypocrisy for criticizing fellow Catholics.

Dr. Donohue responded here. Deal Hudson replies here.

What about these individuals’ positions on divorce, contraception and so-called “gay rights”?
Most of the well-known figures (John Kerry and Ted Kennedy for example) are divorced and remarried illicitly.

These people are so disgusting; I can’t understand how anyone would listen to them.
